New Regulation in Tourist Guide Regulation

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism made some arrangements in the Tourist Guide Profession Law.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has made significant changes to the Tourist Guide Profession Law No. 6326, published in the Official Gazette. With the updates made to the regulation, which entered into force on November 7, 2024, some procedures were accelerated and the criteria regarding discipline were made more clear.

Document delivery time has been halved

The “one month” period given to applicants to submit the required documents has now been limited to “fifteen days”.

Disciplinary criteria relaxed

The phrase “not having received any disciplinary punishment” in the conditions for participation in guidance courses has now been narrowed down to just “not having received any temporary ban or expulsion from the profession”.

Language exam commission made flexible

The difficulties experienced in establishing a commission for foreign language proficiency exams were taken into consideration. With the new regulation, a commission can be established with fewer members with the approval of the ministry and some qualification requirements will not be sought. This will make it easier to hold exams for rare languages.

The vague “and/or” phrase in the legislation has been removed

The expression “and/or”, which could lead to legally ambiguous interpretations, has been replaced with the clearer and more binding word “and”.
